Why do we need Algae cultures in Pakistan?

Traditional agriculture practices can only aid in the fertilization of soil to some extent. One reason why soil is healthy is due to the algae content in it, which is why we have chosen this topic to inform the farmers how they can make their soil nutritious and more fertile.

Role of Algae in Soil:

  • Algae helps in balancing the fertility of soil, infuses relevant organic nutrients to it which makes it tougher against calamities like soil erosion.
  • Particularly, algae plays a major role in fixing the nitrogen ratio in the soil.
  • At large, algae will promote the growth of plants as well as other micro-organisms.

Why do we need Algae cultures in Pakistan?

Pakistan is an agricultural country; however, our agricultural productivity has been decreasing every year. Many of our lands are becoming infertile over time due to unguided farming. Many of the lands are nitrogen depleted, and the increased use of fertilizers is resulting in polluted waters and ruined soil in the long term.

The use of algae cultures in Pakistan will allow for a natural source of nitrogen in our soil. Secondly, a particular algae called Blue-Green algae can be of special importance in rice growing regions of Pakistan as it provides auxin and amino compounds to rice crop. Moreover, there is no real vigilance of algae cultures in Pakistan, so it could be a groundbreaking practice for Pakistani farmers.

Cost Efficiency:

A cost-efficient way of starting algae cultures is through open pond production systems. These are not only low maintenance, but also produce more microalgae in shorter periods of time. Secondly, they can be installed on economically low value lands and can improve their soil in no time.

In conclusion, it can be said that soil algae will produce amazing results in the fertility and nutritious balance in the soil. Not only will it increase the productivity of the farms, but also act as a more cost-efficient method.
